Anger Over Maine Voters’ Decision to Ban Same-Sex Marriage

4 11 2009

Ok, normally I would not post about politics or political issues on this blog, but I feel very strongly on this issue and need to get some stuff off my chest.  As most of you may know, yesterday in Maine, voters were asked to cast their vote for or against same-sex marriage.  Sadly, the slight majority voted against same-sex marriage making the total number of states to ban same-sex marriage by “popular” vote at 31.  Knowing this number angers me to the core.  In my opinion, rights of a minority group should not be decided by the majority.  This has proven through the Emancipation Proclamationthe women’s voting rights movement, the civil rights of 1968, Loving v. Virginia, and Roe v. Wade.  All of these were decided by the President, Congress, or the Supreme Court.  This is how gay rights issues should be handled, and not by popular vote.

Now that I have expressed my anger opinion over the issue of same-sex marriage, I will step off my soapbox, and get back to talking about pop culture.

My New Favorite Song- “Fireflies” by Owl City

11 10 2009

This song has to be my new favorite song. The whole feel behind this song is ethereal. The video is amazing!! Owl City is a music project that has only one member, Adam Young. With every show sold out in the U.S. tour, it is apparent to see that Owl City has come into its own.

Is the new “Fame” movie relevant in today’s society?

21 09 2009

Over the weekend I watched the movie “Fame” (not the remake coming out in theaters but the original 1980 film). After watching this masterpiece, I found myself wondering why a remake was really necessary.   Back in the eighties, becoming famous was something that seemed impossible, but in today’s world of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, anyone with a gimmick or talent can become famous or infamous, if you will, with the click of a mouse. If that weren’t enough to try to achieve fame, there are also several reality shows to choose from.

Fame blogging

20 09 2009

In honor of the new Fame movie coming out Friday, I thought I would put one of the best numbers of the original “Fame” on my blog. The song is “I Sing the Body Electric” and it is the finale to the 1980 film.

Melrose Place Weekly Dish #2b- Ella (Katie Cassidy)

16 07 2009

Here’s the biography of Katie Cassidy from TV.com:
Katie was born into a family who knows a thing or two about entertainment and glamour. She probably got her acting gene from her paternal grandparents who were both actors and her singing prowess from her dad David Cassidy. She grew up with her mom and stepdad in Calabasas, California.

Katie started off with acting in community theater productions and did some modeling with Abercrombie and Fitch. Her plan was to attend NYU’s Tisch School of Performing Arts, but several acting jobs came her way. She made her television debut in the year 2003 in the TV series The Division. From then on, she has appeared in numerous TV and film projects. In 2007, she was cast as a regular in CW’s action thriller Supernatural.

During her free time, Katie loves to travel and take road trips. She’s also into sports such as skiing, snowboarding, soccer, and football. She likes cooking, especially making desserts. When she’s not working, she likes to shop on Melrose with her sisters, Jenna and Jaime. She does not like to read much and likes to spend time on the beach.
